Goodall angry: Dresses down his critics
Malawi’s Minister of finance Goodall Gondwe has brushed aside calls for his resignation arguing that he is the “sacrificial lamb” for the country’s economy.Gondwe was reacting to some stakeholders who suggested that he must resign due to the economic crisis that has hit the country.Gondwe: Am not resigning.Earlier this week, former presidential press secretary Chikumbutso Mtumodzi told members of the press in Lilongwe that Gondwe must leave the ministry of finance arguing that he is too old for the office. “Our dignity as men has been taken away because we cannot provide for our families due to the current economic crisis. Gondwe must resign,” said Mtumodzi. However, when speaking to Nyasaland news on Thursday this week, Gondwe disclosed that he has a lot to contribute for the country’s economy.“When the country is in problems like this one, there has to be somebody to be a sacrificial lamb and I happen to be the person and now helping the president at the top of financial matters and economic matters and the economy is not doing quite well; we have hunger and a number of things that are going wrong, I accept that I will be the sacrificial lamb and everybody is calling me names and they are calling me names,” said Gondwe.Gondwe further said that he is not resigning as minister of finance arguing he has accepted to drive the economy of the country. The minister also urged Malawians to pay tax since the country is no longer receiving budgetary support from donors.
