MCP officials have, however, refused to disclose how much they have raised, insisting that the event will not fail.
Speaking in separate interviews, both MCP spokesperson Ezekiel Ching’oma and secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka said the steering committee for the convention has met twice and that subcommittees for the three major committees of protocol, publicity and transport have been established.
They said the steering committee is chaired by lakeshore regional chairman, Augustine Chidzanja.
“As for funds, let me not disclose how much we have in our coffers since we are still collecting pledged funds from our members. Know that MCP is run by its members through the spirit of ‘nothing for us without us’,” Ching’oma said.
He, however, said all positions, including that of the president, will be up for grabs.
Ching’oma said MCP follows democratic principles, adding that members interested in contesting should come out so that they can compete in the positions they wish.
“MCP does not belong to a particular family and anyone who the delegates have entrusted carries the day. All positions will be up for grabs including that of the president. That is how MCP does its business,” Ching’oma said.
Commenting on campaign matters, Ching’oma said the official campaign period has not started though some people might be campaigning secretly.
