Malawi parliament’s First Deputy Speaker Esther Chilenje and Second Deputy Speaker Clement Chiwaya have denied accusation of swindling money through house allowances from the government, nyasaland news has learnt.According to an initial investigation, the two, were staying in their houses where they are entitled to K250 000 per month as house allowance.However, they were getting K550 000 every month on the pretext that they were staying in rented houses.Clement Chiwaya: Has denied the accusations.The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in the just ending week summoned the two where they were ‘given a chance to explain on the allegations’A statement from the graft busting body revealed that the two were summoned to ACB offices on 18th and 19th respectively.“The summon is relation to the ongoing investigation in relation to the issue of housing allowances.“This was done to give the Second and First Deputy Speakers respectively a chance to explain their side of the story in relation to the investigation,” a depict of the statements reads.In October last year it was revealed that the Parliamentary Service Commission(PSC) wrote the two that they will be getting K250,000 a month with effective September.Legal expert, Justin Dzonzi argued that the resolution by PSC would be a great disservice to taxpayers if it means merely correcting the anomaly without imposing extreme measures.Dzonzi further said the two should be impeached following their “criminal offences by their action”.
