Anger after PAC ignores calls for Mutharika’s resignation
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has expressed anger after the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) did not include some proposals by opposition parties in the final list of resolutions that were agreed at last week’s PAC meeting.Mutharika: opposition parties want him to resignThe opposition party is especially disappointed with PAC’s decision to ignore a resolution that called for President Peter Mutharika to resign as proposed by delegates the PAC conference.
On Thursday, PAC Chairperson Felix Chingota said the body thinks that the current administration can resolve the challenges now not in 30 days as proposed by the delegates during the meeting. However, PAC’s decision has angered MCP whose spokesperson Jessie Kabwila says the religious body has presented its own views and not what was agreed by delegates at the conference. She further accused PAC of being selective in coming up with the resolutions and also questioned the body’s credibility.
‘It is worrisome that PAC has not included the issue of the resignation of the president on the list of resolution,” said Kabwila. “PAC has not included what Malawians are saying; it was supposed to bring what Malawians are saying.”PAC organized a two day meeting in Blantyre last week and during the meeting opposition political parties called for the resignation of Mutharika in 30 days, accusing him of failing to solve some of the challenges rocking the country.
