Malawians in solidarity with Kabwila
Malawians have taken a swipe at government over the arrest of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament Jessie Kabwila arguing that government should focus on addressing challenges that have rocked the country.Ulemu Msungama; Being liked.MCP spokesperson Kabwila, legal advisor Lewis Chakhwantha and member Ulemu Msungama were arrested for planning a protest aimed at overthrowing President Peter Mutharika. Commenting on an article that published by Nyasaland news, Malawians said government should first consider addressing challenges people in country are facing.“Arresting MCP members doesn’t mean you’ve solved the problems that the country is experiencing, but it’s the beginning of other problems. Just liberate them,” wrote Patrick Sichali.Willy Zindondo concurred with Sichali and said: The folly of having foolish advisers you end being fooled. Arresting opposition members will not stop hunger in this country- instead send the police to bring back the cashgated staple food maize in homes of ministers & those who always put their ears to the ground to hear what is on Whatsapp,” said.Others however blamed government for the arrests suggesting that it has failed to hear the voices of reason.Kabwila (left) shortly after her release.“MLS, renowned lawyers, sober minded citizens are all condemning the arrests-this means something is not right. Can’t the govt, for once, listen?” wrote Peevee Mkomba. Some Malawians also faulted police officers for accepting to be used by politicians whenever the ruling party wants to violate the law. “Police should tell us the real story for these people to be arrested. Police are putting this country down they accept everything. They didn’t know democracy how it work you eat money but you don’t know where the country is going to be,” said Gabriel Mwautwa.
