Be Forward Wanderers face a mammoth task Wednesday afternoon when hosting the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) giants, AS Vita, in the second-leg of Caf Champions League at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
With a battered reputation after a 4-0 loss in the DRC, Nomads head into the match as underdogs but anything can happen in football. Surely, the Nomads must forget the Kinshasa nightmare and focus on Wednesday’s match.
But they need to be brave and tactical against Vita; a side with vast experience in continental competitions.
Wanderers Team Manager, Steve Madeira, is upbeat of causing one of the biggest comebacks in continental competitions.
“Nothing is impossible. We need to have self-belief that we can score more goals and progress to the next round. We have to press them hard so that we should overturn the tables,” Madeira said.
Wanderers must avoid conceding early if they are to have hopes of turning the tables in this afternoon’s match.
After Monday training session at the match venue, Vita Head Coach, Jean-Florent Ibenge, said the Nomads have no chance of overturning the tables.
“I do not see them qualifying because we are in Malawi to finish the job we started in [the] DRC last week. We will make life difficult for them,” the former DRC coach said.
Wanderers need to up their game for them to beat the visitors who are dangerous in the wings.
In Wednesday’s encounter, Captain Joseph Kamwendo, Alfred Manyozo Junior, Peter Wadabwa, Esau Kanyenda and Yamikani Chester carry the Nomads hopes.
Wanderers have a full squad except defender Stanley Sanudi who was suspended for posting a video clip on social media.
Vita will rely on Jean Marck Masuku, Jesus Muloko and Mukoko Batezadio.
